A stunning 7th-floor restaurant, delivered without ever taking the BBC off air.
The BBC and Servest commissioned Contract Services Design Studio to redesign the 7th floor restaurant, creating a stunning space with an excellent servery, spacious dining, relaxed coffee areas and informal meeting space. Following the design process, we were appointed by AECOM and Capita to project manage the complete refurbishment to a tight schedule.
As this was a busy working environment for the BBC, which had to remain operational throughout, a major aspect of the project was respecting those employed on all floors below and ensuring limited disruption to staff. This was a CDM project completed in its entirety by Contract Services, who acted as Principal Contractor.
PROJECT AT A GLANCE
Designed for service, built around a live building
The brief called for a restaurant that could flex between a busy servery at peak times and a relaxed coffee or informal meeting space through the rest of the day. Our design studio shaped the layout, finishes and furniture around that rhythm before Contract Services carried the scheme through to completion as Principal Contractor.
With staff on every floor below working throughout the programme, sequencing, noise and access were planned as carefully as the finishes themselves — keeping the BBC operational from first fix to handover.
